Auto Accident Injury Care, Covered by Auto Insurance
|
Annually 120,000 people are affected by whiplash from an auto accident . Dr. Harold
Crowe first used the term “whiplash” in 1928. It is used today to refer to:
1. The hyperextension/hyper flexion injury of the neck.
2. The resulting symptoms of this injury often sustained from an auto accident.
Whiplash Statistics
Whiplash victims lose an average of 8 weeks of work
Rear-end collisions especially are known to cause most
incidents of whiplash.
Whiplash occurs most commonly in those of age 30 to 50.
Symptoms of whiplash may not appear until weeks
or at times even months after the auto accident.
Whiplash is five times more common in women than in men.
Whiplash symptoms last more than 6 months in 75% of patients.

The length of time it takes to heal a whiplash injury from an auto accident varies greatly
from person to person. It is usually dependant on the severity of the accident, although,
at times, lesser impacts can result in significant whiplash injuries in certain individuals.
One study found that 75% of auto accident victims still suffer from pain symptoms of
whiplash even six months after an accident.
Experts agree that individuals with any neck complaints following an auto accident
dramatically improve their long term prognosis if they seek immediate evaluation and
appropriate treatment following a whiplash injury.
Common symptoms of whiplash include:
• Post-traumatic headaches (including migraines)
• Blurred vision
• Difficulty swallowing and/or feeling of lump in the throat
• Lightheadedness
• Dizziness and balance problems
• Neck pain, tenderness, and stiffness
• Shoulder and interscapular pain ( pain between the
shoulder blades)
• Hand and finger pain, numbness and tingling
Treatment may include
• Physical Therapy Modalities
• Manual Therapy and Adjustments
• Medication Management
• Pain Management Injections
Whiplash injuries can affect the muscles,
tendons, ligaments, discs or nerves of the
neck so it is not uncommon for pain to last
for a couple of months.
At The Pain and Injury Center we focus on immediate treatment and rehabilitation to
relieve pain and return you to normal activities as soon as possible.
Dr. Wall and the staff of the Pain and Injury Center accept all car insurance so you can
