FAQ
The Pain and Injury Center now offers L.A.S.E. Treatment in Clearwater and the
surrounding areas.

hospitalization and lengthy recovery times.  Minimally invasive surgical techniques use tiny incisions
made in the skin through which small, specialized instruments  are inserted. These techniques cause
minimal damages to muscle tissues and less damage means less pain and shorter recovery times.

The Pain and Injury Center is one of only a handful of clinics now offering the FDA approved L.A.S.E
treatment.

L.A.S.E., which is an acronym for Laser Assisted Spinal Endoscopy, is a minimally invasive surgical
procedure aimed at treating a wide range of back injuries .  .  This procedure is performed by passing a
laser fiber into the disc and under direct visualization, through a tiny video fiber, removing small amounts
of disc material. This is effective for patients with contained disc herniations and pain originating from
painful discs.   Additionally, we have found the LASE procedure beneficial in treating pain that originates
from the small joints of the back known as facet joints.  By reducing and even eliminating pain caused by
both the disc AND the facet joints, we are able to obtain good to excellent results in 85 percent of our
patients with specific forms of  back pain.  After  the LASE procedure pain relief is almost instantaneous
and hospitalization is not required.  Except for mild muscle soreness which resolves quickly,
complications are very rare.

What are the advantages of these treatments?

1.        They are performed under local anesthesia with sedation and do not require general anesthesia
           and are thus safer
2.        Patients enjoy a quicker recovery time often returning to work in 2 days
3.        Because the muscles and ligaments are not cut and the spinal nerves are generally not
manipulated, there are less long term complications of scarring with these treatments
